    Frequently Asked Questions

Is this only for privacy fences?

No. The calculator is a pricing framework. You can use it for wood privacy, vinyl, aluminum, chain-link, ranch rail, gates, commercial fencing, and other jobs—provided you enter the direct costs and target margin that apply to that job.

Does the calculator tell me what I should charge in my city?

No. It helps you calculate the minimum quote price required to achieve your selected gross margin using your estimated direct job costs. Local market conditions, overhead, sales tax, permit treatment, customer payment options and terms, warranty obligations, and competition still matter.

Is gross margin the same thing as net profit?

No. Gross margin is the revenue left after direct job costs. Overhead and net profit must still be considered in the contractor's pricing model.
